The mobile phone has got to be one of the fastest developing products in the world. We all thought it was amazing when you could make a call from outside your house on a corless phone, then to be able to go into town with the first ever mobile. . . WOW!.
Then came texting, then intergration with the internet came WAP, then you got your emails and the ability to surf the web fully. And then came the introduction of APPS, where do you start!!! You can watch movies, order your shopping, you can unlock and start your car with your mobile, you can even run your bath, you can control your business the list is endless!!
The whole idea of having a computer in your pocket is nearly there, or is it even nearer than we think?. We already have the power of a computer, especially if you look at the specs of the new Samsung Galaxy S3, but all we seem to be missing to create the perfect computer in your pocket is a portable 21 inch monitor and a keyboard? - Samsung are about to launch a product called the Samsung Galaxy Beam which projects a 52 inch display, so here we have our 21 inch portable monitor, all we need now is a projecting keyboard and some apps compatable with the basic operating tools of your PC, Word, Excel etc and you will truely have a portable computer ??
This all seems pretty cool concidering where we started, but there are still more amazing things to come - one of these 'AMAZING THINGS' is graphene, I have been follwing this product for the past 3 years, it looks possible that graphene will revolutionise the mobile phone industry!. Last year the UK govenment annouced it would make £50m available for research and developement into this amazing product and Samsung look like they will lead the way in using graphene in the mobile phone industry.
Graphene can be used to make flexible screens and it has already been suggested that it can be used in eyeware and possibly contact lenses.
So, where does this put our portable computer. Well imagine having a powerful smartphone in your pocket whilst wearing a pair of cool glasses with a built in mini camera and a headset, with the added development of Augmented Realty its now that everything your smartphone can do, can now be totally related in sight, movement and sound.
For example, there would be no need for a TV at home anymore, you can all sit in the same living room, watching differenet programmes on your big screen whilst still being able to see and talk to each other, and on top of it all see amazing true 3D walk around objects or environments!, Then there is the fully portable heads up displayed GPS, ideal for all out of bounds, cycling, running etc, and with great Apps like Word Lens Translate all text in situe - so whilst your travelling all signs will be displayed in your chossen language.
And if you think that I am only scratching at the surface with what I am discussing, these are thentruly exciting times and I cant wait to see what happens!!
